What do YOU want?

theprcook Goals, Personal Development

The beginning of a new year gives us the chance to reset and start fresh. As we roll into 2020, now is a good time to think about what you really want for yourself. Knowing what you want is key to living the life you deserve and your overall happiness. Why? Because knowing helps us set goals and plan….and planning gives us hope.

Life gets hard, but what makes it most difficult is the unknown. Have you ever been unsure about a relationship or if you’d make enough money to cover the monthly bills? Ideas of working more hours, spending less, being more affectionate or replaying the nasty details of arguments consume your mind. The stress and time spent mentally dwelling on what did or didn’t take place won’t change the current situation. Those unsettled feelings can be pure torture, mainly because you can’t see the outcome. When faced with the unknown, you have to take a step back and take a long look in the mirror. Ask yourself…What do I want? What do I know? How can I figure it out? It’s perfectly normal to be unclear about the direction of your life, but don’t wander too long. Without a clear course of action you could end up anywhere! Anywhere could include bad decisions, loss, and more set-backs. Here are a few questions to jumpstart your thoughts and determine what YOU want:

Questions for clarity on your past:
1. Who am I?
2. What have I overcome?
3. What have I achieved? (Proud of?)
4. When was I at my best?
5. What are my strengths?

Questions for clarity on your future
1. Who do I want to be?
2. What am I avoiding?
3. What is my passion?
4. What makes me happy?
5. How can I improve + grow?

You can’t avoid every unknown, but you are better prepared when you focus on achieving an end result. Once you discover what you want, align your actions to achieve those wants. This process starts by examining where you are as of right now. Assess your mental, physical, and spiritual status in your current circumstances and decide if you are in a position to get to where you really want to be. If you are not, take action and get there! If you find that you have some unresolved issues, face them but keep moving forward. Believe that it is possible and start exactly where you are, today.

When we set a specific goal, it becomes easier to fill our days with steps to accomplish it.
